About this role.

Lead mechanical engineering scopes, support design reviews and provide high-quality technical guidance across industrial, energy and critical-infrastructure projects.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer role supports the delivery and assurance of technically demanding engineering projects across CITA Engineering's sectors.

The role involves taking ownership of mechanical engineering scopes, developing and reviewing engineering deliverables, coordinating with other disciplines and providing clear technical guidance to clients and project teams.

Assignments may range from concept and FEED activities through detailed design, fabrication support, installation, commissioning, operations and asset-life-extension work. The successful engineer would be expected to combine sound technical judgement with practical awareness of fabrication, construction and operational constraints.

Key responsibilities

Develop, review and check mechanical engineering calculations, specifications, technical notes and reports.

Lead or support mechanical design activities across multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Review existing equipment, systems and technical documentation to establish design requirements and engineering constraints.

Support engineering assurance, design verification and independent technical review activities.

Coordinate mechanical interfaces with structural, process, piping, HVAC and project engineering disciplines as required by the project.

Support equipment selection, technical evaluation and vendor-document review.

Develop practical engineering solutions for modifications, brownfield works and asset-life-extension scopes.

Provide technical input during fabrication, installation, commissioning and operational-support activities.

Identify engineering risks, assumptions, design constraints and required actions.

Communicate directly with clients, suppliers and other project stakeholders.

Support junior engineers through technical guidance, checking and knowledge sharing.

Maintain clear, auditable engineering documentation and calculations.

Experience & capabilities

Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and engineering judgement.

Experience delivering mechanical engineering work within industrial, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure or other technically demanding environments.

Ability to develop and review engineering calculations and technical documentation.

Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, equipment data and relevant design information.

Understanding of multidisciplinary design interfaces.

Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to clients and project teams.

Experience working with recognised engineering standards and project-specific requirements.

Ability to manage engineering priorities and deliver work to agreed quality, cost and programme expectations.

Desirable experience

Experience with engineering assurance or independent technical review.

Exposure to brownfield modifications or existing-asset engineering.

Experience supporting fabrication, installation or commissioning activities.

Experience working across more than one engineering lifecycle stage.
